In Africa, two-thirds of the continent’s population lack access to electricity. The reason for this energy crisis consists in particular in the rising electric power consumption per capita and the increasing gap between the growth of population, which was by 2.9% annually over the last 25 years, and the grid extension rate of only 2.7% over the same period.

Located to the north of New Zealand in the midst of the South Pacific the island state Fiji has to face the severe consequences of climate change. Rising sea levels and extreme weather conditions represent a big challenge for the country comprising of 330 small islands. Currently, the country’s energy supply is mainly based on polluting fossil fuels. The dependence on oil imports causes high costs and makes Fiji vulnerable to the fluctuations of the global oil market burdening the federal budget heavily. Aiming to actively contribute to reducing the country’s dependence on fossil fuels, we have founded the local joint venture oursun Pacific Limited together with a local investment entity.

WE WON TENDER FOR RENEWABLE POWER INSTALLATION IN SOUTH AMERICAN REPUBLIC

We have been awarded the prestigious tender for the supply and installation of a solar PV system at the State House in Georgetown by the Guyana Energy Agency. The Ministry of the Presidency will be equipped with a state of the art 43 kWp solar rooftop system which will be synchronised with the grid. The government of Antigua and Barbuda (GOAB) further strives toward the realisation of generating 20 per cent of its electricity from renewable energy resources by the year 2020. The installation of a 150 kWp clean power project on the Caribbean twin islands state to be implemented shortly by the clean energy provider PV Energy Limited marks the first step in Barbuda towards the final goal of 1 MWp.

Journey draws public attention to solar energy

A beautiful view over the snow-covered mountains of the Alps represented the reward for our meeco balloon team, which has been exposed to temperatures of 20 degrees below zero. From January 14th until 21st the team participated in the “Ballonfestival Tannheimer Tal” in Austria near the country boarder to Switzerland. Braving the cold temperatures the team flew with its SunCarrier-branded hot-air balloon at an altitude of 3,200 metres above sea level.
