SOLAR ENERGY IN MAURITIUS
meeco Services Mauritius - CLEAN ENERGY PROVISION FOR SUSTAINABLE ISLAND
The meeco Group has been contributing to the development of the renewable energy sector in Mauritius since mid 2012. As off then, numerous small to mid-size projects have been implemented through its subsidiary meeco services Mauritius Limited.
meeco Services Mauritius has already realised more than 1,500 kWp of turnkey solar projects in Mauritius and beyond in the associated African territory, with the aim to spur the expansion of clean energy sources as an efficient and sustainable alternative to fossil fuel energy in this region.
One of the first implemented projects is the installation of a 246 kWp solar project on several rooftops of the BEC (Bureau de l’Éducation Catholique) schools in Mauritius, which was done in cooperation with local partners. The green renewable energy provided to these schools will benefit the students through undisturbed lessons without power cuts. For Mauritius, it is of special importance to find alternative energy solutions in order to meet current and future energy requirements.
The meeco Group together with its local partners further installed a 63 kWp solar power and storage system on the rooftop of a KIA showroom, a 50 kWp solar installation for the municipality in the capital Port Louis, and a 40 kWp photovoltaic rooftop system for the Universal College. Moreover, the small Aigrettes Island in the Southeast of Mauritius was provided with a portable 3 kWp solution ensuring reliable off-grid energy supply. All of these projects contribute to the islands’ green and sustainable development supported by meeco Services Mauritius.
