Renewables are a highly competitive alternative

Over the last years, electricity prices have significantly increased. Meanwhile, the costs for renewable energy systems have stabilized at a remarkably low level. At the end of June 2019, various American media releases stated that the U.S. receive more electricity from renewable energies than coal – a big step for an industrial nation. But why seems such a development impossible for a continent like Africa? Although the renewable energy use is increasing year by year, fossil energy still dominates the electricity sector. read more

Madagascar offers perfect conditions for implementing solar energy plants.

Groupe Filatex and The meeco Group have agreed implementation of solar power plants to feed clean energy into the island’s electricity grid

Located in the Indian Ocean, the Republic of Madagascar known for its outstanding rich biodiversity, has an excellent natural potential for solar energy thanks to its geographical position and the strong solar radiation. In order to benefit from these advantageous climate conditions and to generate reliable clean energy to feed and stabilise the national grid, Groupe Filatex and meeco have recently signed a cooperation agreement.  In the initial phase, the agreement sets the basis to build, own and operate three solar energy projects: two utility-scale sun2live PV power plants with a nominal capacity of 7 MW and 8 MW, and one hybrid solar diesel project comprising of two parts each with a nominal capacity of 500 kWp.

meeco brings sun2rope and sun2safe solar energy systems to Cottar’s 1920s Safari Camp

The establishment of a reliable electricity supply represents an enormous challenge for off-grid tourist destinations in Africa such as remote Safari lodges. Located in the Olderkesi Wildlife Conservancy in Masai Mara, Kenya, the Cottar’s 1920s Safari Camp is currently nearly exclusively powered by energy produced from diesel gensets due to a missing connection to the electrical grid. In order to reduce the dependence on these cost-extensive and polluting energy sources, meeco will install a 50 kWp sun2rope mounted solar energy solution in combination with a sun2safe energy management system at the isolated and exclusive Safari lodge. read more
